Our Own English High School Dubai

Pastoral Care

Our pastoral care programme is underpinned by the on-going development of relationship between students and between staff and students.

Our students are provided with various opportunities to equip them with all the skills required in a challenging and changing world. The Student Council Body and the Prefectorial Body of our school provides a platform to students to develop effective leadership and team work skills that are underpinned by the four core values.

House System
Building the competitive spirit

The school has a well-defined House System and encourages healthy competition in every area of activities and in academic excellence.

All students are allotted to four houses:

House Motto
Mars For Honour We Strive
Jupiter Labour with Consistency
Saturn To Greater Heights
Neptune Truth will Triumph

Through various activities the house system helps develop camaraderie, team spirit and healthy competition. Good performance and exceptional deportment by students earns points for their Houses. Each house is placed under a House Mistress, who is directly responsible for the discipline and general well being of the members of the House. She is assisted in her tasks by a team of tutors ,House captains,Vice captains and prefects.

Regular Inter-House competitions are held throughout the year in various sports and extra-curricular activities, to keep the house flag aloft and to win the coveted Champion-House Trophy.

Prefectorial System
Building leadership qualities
The prefectorial system forms the backbone of student life in the school. The initiative and capabilities of individual students are continuously watched and those with inherent or cultivated leadership qualities are selected to the Prefects’ Council. This council headed by the Head Girl and the Deputy Head Girl, is encouraged to manage students’ affairs independently, though with the guidance of staff members. The Head Girl and the Deputy Head Girl serve as a link between the school authorities and the student community

Student Council
Building bridges

This vibrant body is at the forefront of all student activities and serves as the liaison between students and administration, faculty, alumni, and the community. The student council members bring forth the ideas of the students to the faculty and the management team for improving the quality of school life and communicates the outcome to the students. The body seeks to resolve student issues and help improving facilities through sharing of ideas and participation thereby promoting the welfare of its fellow colleagues.

Personal Counselling
A programme of structured support is provided by the counsellor for children identified as having special educational needs. These may be physical, social, emotional or academic and may be for a short or extended period of time. Special needs support may be given to the very able child as well as those with learning difficulties. In these circumstances early contact with parents is made which is essential to the success of any special programme of work.
